Expanding the Sports Quota Amidst Previous Restrictions
The Haryana government had earlier introduced a 3% sports quota in Group-A, B, and C posts for direct recruitment. However, this quota was later discontinued for Group-A and B posts, and the quota for Group-C posts was limited to only seven departments - Home, Secondary Education, Primary Education, and Sports. This decision faced widespread criticism from the state's sportspersons, who had been demanding the restoration of the quota across all departments.
Chief Minister Takes Charge, Officials Instructed to Resolve the Issue
Recognizing the importance of this issue, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has now taken personal interest in the matter. The Chief Minister has entrusted the responsibility of resolving this issue to the Chief Principal Secretary, Rajesh Khullar. Khullar has since held discussions with officials from the Sports Department and the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) to understand the background of the quota's restriction and explore ways to reinstate it across all Group-C posts in the state.
Restoring the Sports Quota Across All Group-C Departments
During the discussions, the officials examined the timeline of events leading to the sports quota's limitation to only seven departments. They also assessed the progress made in filling the existing quota positions under this policy. The consensus emerging from the meeting is that the sports quota should be restored across all Group-C posts in the state, regardless of the department. The final decision on this matter now rests with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Potential for Age Relaxation for Sportspersons
In addition to the expansion of the sports quota, the discussions also touched upon the possibility of providing age relaxation to sportspersons, particularly for those applying to departments with an age limit of less than 42 years. The sportspersons have requested a three-year age relaxation in such cases, and the matter has been deliberated upon during the meeting. It is likely that this request for age relaxation will also be considered favorably by the government.
