Haryana's premier medical institution, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, has marked a significant achievement in medical education excellence. The institute has secured the 12th position nationally in the prestigious Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) evaluation, conducted by Education Post.
Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, began its journey in 1960 as a modest medical school. Named after Haryana's first Chief Minister, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, the institution has grown from its initial intake of 50 MBBS students to become one of North India's premier medical education hubs. The transformation from a basic medical school to a post-graduate institute in 1995 marked a significant milestone in its history.
The ranking holds special significance as PGIMS competed with approximately 750 medical colleges across India. Dr. SS Lohchab, Director of PGIMS, highlighted that the institution has secured the sixth position in North India, sharing ranks with renowned institutions like AIIMS (New Delhi), PGIMER (Chandigarh), and KGMU (Lucknow).
"This achievement reflects our commitment to excellence in medical education," said Dr. Lohchab, attributing the success to state authorities' support and the guidance of Prof (Dr) Anita Saxena, Vice-Chancellor of UHS Rohtak.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh Laller, Dean of PGIMS, noted a positive trend in student preferences. "High-ranking NEET candidates are increasingly choosing our MBBS, MD/MS, and MCh/DM programs," he explained.
According to Dr. Neeti Mittal, Professor and Nodal Officer, the IIRF ranking system evaluates institutions based on crucial factors including:
- Industry interface
- Employability prospects
- Practical training facilities
- Overall educational quality
This recognition establishes PGIMS Rohtak as a rising star in medical education, promising a bright future for healthcare education in Haryana.
