India made a significant impact on the second day of the Paris Paralympics 2024, securing four medals and positioning itself among the top 20 nations on the medal table. This remarkable performance has set a positive tone for India's Paralympic campaign, showcasing the country's growing prowess in para-sports. 

Shooting Stars: Lekhara's Historic Gold and More 

The shooting range proved to be a goldmine for India, with three out of four medals coming from this discipline. Avani Lekhara led the charge, clinching gold in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event with a final score of 249.7. This victory etched Lekhara's name in the history books as the first Indian to win back-to-back gold medals in the Paralympics, following her success in Tokyo 2020. 

Adding to the shooting success, Mona Agarwal secured bronze in the same event, marking India's first-ever double podium finish at the Paralympics. The day concluded with Manish Narwal winning silver in the men's 10m air pistol SH1 event, further solidifying India's reputation in Paralympic shooting. 

Breaking New Ground in Athletics 

In a groundbreaking moment for Indian para-athletics, sprinter Preethi clinched bronze in the women's 100m T35 sprint. This achievement is particularly significant as it marks India's first-ever medal in a Paralympic track event. Preethi's success adds a new dimension to India's Paralympic profile, which has traditionally been stronger in field events.
