In a bold move, scores of posters have appeared across Karnal, criticizing the BJP government's slogan "Mhara Haryana, Non-stop Haryana" and accusing the state of being "non-stop in crime against women." The posters, which have been pasted on various walls and roundabouts, highlight a grim statistic that nearly 14,000 rapes were reported in Haryana over the last 10 years under the BJP rule.
The posters, which feature images of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, directly challenge the ruling party's slogan by twisting it to make a strong statement about the state's record on women's safety. The posters have garnered significant public attention, drawing widespread concern and discussion about the state's handling of crimes against women.
The Karnal administration has launched an inquiry into the matter, but it is yet to determine who is responsible for pasting these posters. The posters have been spotted at multiple locations, including the walls of CSSRI, Parnami Mandir, the residence of Nilokheri MLA Dharampal Gonder, Railway Road, Ramlila Ground, NDRI Chowk, and other areas of the city. Interestingly, the posters do not include the name of any publisher or printing press.
After the issue came to light, the district administration swung into action and got these posters removed. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Uttam Singh has directed the Superintendent of Police Mohit Handa to get to the bottom of the issue and identify the individuals responsible for pasting these posters. Additionally, the SDM Karnal-cum-Returning Officer has been appointed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
"All posters have been removed. We have launched an inquiry and the Returning Officer has been told to investigate the matter. The Superintendent of Police has also been asked to identify those responsible for pasting such posters," the DC said.
It's worth noting that similar posters targeting the state government's record on unemployment have also been spotted in the city, highlighting the growing discontent among the public. The Civil Lines police have registered a case against unidentified individuals under the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989 on the complaint of the SDO, UHBVN, Anup Kumar.
The emergence of these posters underscores the significant challenges the BJP government faces in Haryana, particularly in the areas of women's safety and employment. The administration's swift action to remove the posters and launch an investigation suggests the sensitivity of the issue and the government's desire to control the narrative ahead of the upcoming elections.
