AAP-Congress Alliance Confirmed for Lok Sabha Elections in Haryana

Alliance Agreement: 

In a significant development in Haryana's political landscape, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have finalised a deal to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections together. Both parties have agreed to follow the footsteps of alliances formed in other states, aiming to present a unified front in Haryana. As part of the agreement, the Congress has consented to allocate one parliamentary seat to AAP in Haryana.

Kurukshetra Seat in Discussion: 

Of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, all eyes are now on the Kurukshetra constituency, where Congress is likely to offer a berth to AAP. Historically, Kurukshetra has been a stronghold of the Congress party, which has secured victory here eight times. However, the dynamics shifted in 2014 when BJP clinched its first win in the constituency. Despite BJP's recent victories in 2014 and 2019, Congress remains hopeful to regain ground, especially with the potential alliance with AAP.

Electoral History and Jat Dominance:

Kurukshetra holds significance not only due to its electoral history but also because of its substantial Jat electorate. Despite being known as a constituency with the highest Jat voters, Kurukshetra has not elected a Jat representative for a significant period. The electoral landscape saw a transformation in 2014 when BJP secured its maiden victory here, breaking Congress's long standing dominance. The BJP's success was attributed to the "Modi wave," resulting in consecutive wins in subsequent elections. However, with the AAP-Congress alliance in the works, the upcoming polls could witness a realignment of political forces in the region.
