A protest led by farmers in Haryana's Hisar district took a violent turn as clashes erupted between the demonstrators and police forces. The confrontation left several injured and resulted in damage to vehicles, highlighting escalating tensions in the ongoing farmers' agitation.
Scuffle at Kheri Chopta:
The clash occurred at Kheri Chopta in the Narnaund subdivision of Hisar district, where farm activists, organized by khap panchayats and farmers' organizations, had gathered for a protest march. Sources report that the confrontation began when police attempted to confiscate keys from tractor-riding protesters, leading to a scuffle between law enforcement and demonstrators.
Injuries and Detentions:
During the two-hour-long clash, both farmers and policemen sustained injuries, including senior police officials such as DSP Ravinder Sangwan and SHO Chander Bhan. Additionally, vehicles belonging to both parties were damaged in the altercation. Several farmer leaders, including Suresh Koth and Kuldeep Kharar, were detained by the police in connection with the incident.
Demand for Justice and Rejection of Compensation:
Amidst the chaos, farmer leaders vehemently rejected the government's offer of Rs 1 crore compensation to the family of a deceased farmer, Shubhkaran Singh. They demand the registration of an FIR against the police officers responsible for Singh's death and refuse to permit his post-mortem until their demands are met. Despite technical requirements for consent from the victim's family, farmer leaders, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, assert their determination to withhold consent until justice is served.
The clash between farmers and police in Hisar underscores the deepening tensions surrounding the ongoing farmers' protest. As both sides remain entrenched in their positions, the situation remains volatile, with farmer leaders rejecting compensation offers and demanding accountability for alleged police brutality. The incident reflects the continued challenges in resolving the contentious issues driving the farmers' agitation in Haryana and beyond.
