Authorities in Gurugram, Haryana, claimed on Monday that a 14-year-old girl was murdered by her neighbor, who allegedly cut her throat, hid the body in his room, and then fled. The accused lived next door to the victim's family, and preliminary investigations indicate that he committed the crime as a form of revenge against them, the police said. As per the news agency PTI, the event happened in Gurugram's Silokhra village on February 9 at approximately 9 p.m.
The girl, who was living in a rented one-room apartment with her family, went to fetch soap from a communal restroom. Rekha Thapa, who relocated to Gurugram from Nepal in 2019 with her family, was recognized by the police as the girl. According to the officers, the suspect, Raj Bahadur, also known as Raju, is presently evading capture and is a native of Nepal. Crime branch teams are conducting raids in an attempt to capture Bahadur, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya. Gyanu Thapa, the girl's father, stated he didn't see Rekha till he went to work on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Thapa is employed as a housekeeper at a nightclub located in Sector 29. “At 9 pm, when I was at work, I received a call from my friend who said that my daughter was missing…I immediately returned home and went to a nearby market to look for her. I also asked neighbors but none of them saw her leave the building,” he told the reporters. Thapa claimed that when looking for Rekha, his wife saw that Bahadur's apartment was unlocked. When she opened the door, she discovered Rekha's body on the floor in a pool of blood. “A piece of cloth used for gagging her mouth and a knife were also lying nearby. The man who lived in the flat was missing. One of our neighbors immediately alerted the police,” Thapa said.
