Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, serving time for the rape of two disciples and the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, has been granted a 50-day parole, marking his ninth temporary release in four years. Currently incarcerated in Rohtak's Sunaria jail, he is expected to be released to the Barnava Ashram in Uttar Pradesh. This decision comes despite controversy surrounding his parole history, having been granted a 21-day furlough on November 21, 2023. During that period, his adopted daughter, Honeypreet, picked him up for a spiritual event in UP. After the furlough concluded on December 13, 2023, Ram Rahim returned to Sunaria jail.

The parole conditions restrict his stay to the Barnava Ashram, as he is not allowed to visit the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar clarified that parole is granted according to jail regulations, emphasizing that Ram Rahim is not permitted to visit Sirsa during parole or furlough.

In previous parole requests, Ram Rahim cited reasons such as visiting his ailing mother, seeking medical treatment, overseeing his daughters' weddings, and tending to his fields near the UP ashram. Despite concerns and criticism, authorities have consistently granted his temporary releases based on these justifications.

The 50-day parole renewal has raised questions about the frequency and nature of his releases. Critics argue that such leniency undermines the severity of his crimes and questions the legal and ethical aspects of his repeated temporary releases. Haryana authorities maintain that parole is granted within legal frameworks, adhering to specified conditions.

As the controversial spiritual leader prepares for another temporary release, public opinion remains divided on the appropriateness of the decision, with concerns about justice and legal precedents dominating the discourse.
