Haryana Lady IPS Officer Smiti Chaudhary Dies at 48

Anti-Corruption Bureau SP Passes Away in Maharashtra, Husband Also IPS Officer

Haryana's IPS officer Smiti Chaudhary passed away suddenly on Friday at the age of 48 in Maharashtra. She had been unwell for some time and was on medical leave when she went to visit her husband in Nashik, Maharashtra.

Smiti's husband, Rajesh Kumar, is also an IPS officer currently serving as Inspector General in Maharashtra. When her health deteriorated, she was admitted to a hospital in Nashik where she breathed her last. Her final rites were performed there.

Personal Life

Born on August 15, 1976, in Dumarkhan Kalan village in Jind district, Smiti came from a distinguished family of civil servants. Her mother, Jaywanti Shyokand, was an IAS officer, and most of her family members have served in senior government positions.

Smiti married Rajesh Kumar from Garhi village in Kaithal in 1998. At the time of her death, she was posted as Superintendent of Police in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Ambala. Her family currently resides in Panchkula, Haryana.

Career

She began her career in Haryana Police as an HPS officer but was later promoted to IPS, becoming part of the 2012 batch of Haryana cadre IPS officers. Throughout her career, she served in various important positions including DSP in Anti-Corruption Bureau, Panchkula DSP, Lokayukta office, State Vigilance Bureau, Charkhi Dadri SP, and commandant of the first battalion of Haryana Armed Police.

Haryana State Government had promoted her to selection grade with pay level -13 in February 2025 recognising her dedicated service to the police force.
