The water dispute between Haryana and Punjab continues to escalate, with Himachal Pradesh now joining the conflict. As Haryana prepares for a crucial all-party meeting to address the situation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has made a significant statement about the ongoing water distribution battle.
Haryana government has called an all-party meeting today at 2 PM in Chandigarh to discuss the intensifying water sharing dispute with Punjab. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and other political leaders are expected to attend this meeting as the state government strengthens its position on the issue.
Adding a new dimension to the conflict, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has stated, "The water belongs to Himachal, but Punjab and Haryana are fighting over it. We are asking for an increase in our electricity royalty, but BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board) doesn't increase that either."
Sukhu further explained that whenever Himachal demands an increase in royalty, Punjab and Haryana do not cooperate. He pointed out the historical impact of the Bhakra Dam construction on Himachal Pradesh, saying, "When the Bhakra Dam was built, Himachal's people were most affected. Many villages were submerged, and hundreds of people were displaced."
The Himachal CM's statement highlights the complex nature of interstate water sharing and power generation agreements in the region, adding another layer to the already contentious dispute between Haryana and Punjab.
In a separate comment, CM Sukhu also mentioned that the government held a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting yesterday regarding the Pahalgam issue, stating that the Congress party stands with the government against Pakistan and has made the most sacrifices for the country.
As the three states navigate this increasingly complex water dispute, the outcome of Haryana's all-party meeting will be closely watched for potential developments in this regional crisis.
