The Congress party has urged the Haryana government to convene an all-party meeting and a special Assembly session to address the pressing issue of water sharing with Punjab. Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda criticized the BJP government for failing to protect Haryana's rights, leading to a severe water crisis in the state.
Hooda alleged that Punjab's decision to reduce water supply from 9,500 cusecs to 4,000 cusecs has put Haryana's agriculture at risk. He claimed that during the Congress tenure, the state used to receive its full share of water due to Haryana's representation on the Bhakra Beas Management Board.
"Despite the Supreme Court's verdict in favour of Haryana on the SYL issue, the government has failed to get water," Hooda said. He demanded that the state government take immediate action to ensure Haryana's water rights are protected.
Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala accused the Modi government and Punjab of pushing Haryana towards a water crisis. Four Haryana Congress MPs have sought a meeting with the Union Jal Shakti Minister to discuss the issue.
