Significance of Modi's Haryana Visit on Ambedkar Jayanti

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Haryana on April 14, coinciding with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary, represents a calculated political strategy that serves multiple objectives for the ruling BJP.

The timing of this high-profile visit carries significant symbolism as the party continues to strengthen its connection with Scheduled Caste voters while simultaneously highlighting its infrastructure development agenda across the state. 

Political analysts note that the BJP has made substantial inroads with Dalit voters in recent elections. During the October 2024 Assembly elections, the party secured eight of the 17 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes—a notable improvement from their five-seat performance in 2019. This electoral success marked a recovery from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where BJP and Congress had split the SC-reserved constituencies evenly.

"The choice of Ambedkar Jayanti for these announcements is no coincidence," explains a senior political observer from the region. "It allows the BJP to express gratitude to the SC community that helped deliver their historic third consecutive term in Haryana while simultaneously countering opposition narratives about their stance on constitutional values." 

Throughout his addresses in Hisar and Yamunanagar, the Prime Minister repeatedly emphasized his government's commitment to uplifting marginalized communities. PM Modi's speech significantly highlighted social justice initiatives specifically benefiting SC and OBC communities which form more than half of Haryana 's electorate.

The BJP's strategy in Haryana has increasingly centered on consolidating support among non-Jat voters, particularly Dalits. The state government's implementation of sub-classification within Dalit reservations following a Supreme Court judgment last year further demonstrates this approach.

Modi's visit to Haryana also delivered infrastructure announcements which includes airport expansions and power projects reinstating the power of "double engine government."
