BJP Breaking Its Own Manifesto Promises, Says Kumari Selja on LPG Price Hike

Congress Leader Criticizes ₹50 Increase in Gas Cylinder Prices; Claims "Triple-Engine" Government Is Delivering "Shock After Shock" to Common People

Sirsa MP Kumari Selja

Former Union Minister and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has launched an attack on the BJP government for increasing LPG cylinder prices, calling it a direct contradiction of promises made in the party's own election manifesto.

In a media statement released on Tuesday, Selja pointed out that the BJP had promised to provide gas cylinders to every household at ₹500 under the 'Har Ghar Grahni Yojana,' but has now increased that price by ₹50. She also criticized the Haryana government for failing to fulfill its budgetary promise of providing ₹2,100 per month to women under the Lakshmi Yojana.

"Monday turned out to be nothing short of a disaster for the country," Selja stated. "First, a severe crash in the stock market shocked people, and on top of that, the government announced several decisions that directly affect people's pockets."

The Congress leader highlighted that after the recent hike, Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries will now have to pay ₹553 per cylinder, up from ₹503, while regular customers will be charged ₹853 for a 14.2 kg cylinder. She also noted that CNG prices have been increased by ₹1 per kilogram.

"The government has already stopped subsidies on LPG, and the prices of cylinders are being increased at regular intervals," Selja said. "On one hand, the government boasts about delivering gas to every household, and on the other hand, it's raising prices to make it unaffordable for the poor."

Selja emphasized that household budgets are already under severe strain due to rising prices of vegetables, cooking oil, and other essential food items. The additional burden of increased cylinder prices will further disrupt kitchen finances for millions of families across the country.

"Rather than offering relief, the BJP government is mocking the pain of the common man," she asserted. "Ever since the BJP came to power, whether it's LPG or household items, prices have only gone up. By increasing LPG prices by ₹50, the BJP is effectively snatching food from people's plates."

MP Kumari Selja stated that the government should immediately roll back the price hikes and the BJP 's "triple-engine" government - central, state and local is busy in harassing people from all the directions instead of providing economic relief.

Selja's criticism comes amid growing concerns about inflation and economic challenges facing ordinary citizens, with opposition parties increasingly focusing on price rises of essential commodities as a key issue ahead of upcoming elections.
