Police have arrested the main accused in the murder of Jannayak Janta Party's youth wing state secretary Ravinder Minna, who was shot dead late Friday night. The arrest came within 48 hours of the incident.
The accused has been identified as Ranbir, a resident of Jagsi village who was currently living in Vikas Nagar. Minna was killed and two others, Vineet and Vinay, were injured during a shooting at a panchayat meeting in Vikas Nagar.
Arrest Based on Tip-off
SP Lokender Singh said five teams had been formed to apprehend the accused. The CIA-2 team led by Inspector Phool Kumar received information about Ranbir's whereabouts and arrested him near a powerhouse in the Sector 29 area.
The accused will be produced in court on Monday, according to the SP.
Family Dispute Led to Murder
The primary investigation revealed that the accused's brother-in-law Rinku was married to Minna's sister-in-law. The couple had gotten into a dispute, after which Rinku's wife went to her parents' house in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and filed a case against Rinku and his parents. Minna had attempted to resolve the issue through a panchayat meeting.
How the Murder Happened
According to the SP, the accused revealed that with the help of his friend Rajbir, a panchayat was convened at a dairy in Vikas Nagar to settle the conflict. Minna, along with Vinay and Vineet, attended the meeting after being called.
During the panchayat, Ranbir first shot at Vinay, then at Vineet when he tried to intervene. When Minna attempted to flee, he was also shot.
