Cold winds from the mountains have brought a chill back to Haryana, causing temperatures to drop and residents to feel winter's bite once again. Morning and evening hours have turned particularly cold as maximum temperatures have fallen by 7 degrees and nighttime temperatures dipped 6 degrees below normal.
Yamunanagar saw maximum temperatures drop below 20°C, while Sirsa recorded a nighttime low of 6.6°C that could fall even further. According to meteorologists, strong winds of 15-20 km/h will continue across the state for the next three days.
"Though sunshine will prevail during the day, the winds will make it feel cold," said Dr. Madan Khichad, Head of Agricultural Meteorology at Haryana Agricultural University. "We expect the weather to remain variable but dry until March 9."
Two Western Disturbances Expected Between March 9-12
The recent hailstorms on February 28 in several parts of Haryana and continuous fresh snowfall in the mountains have suddenly increased the cold. According to meteorologists, two weak western disturbances will activate one after another on March 9 and March 12, bringing some weather changes and temperature fluctuations.
Light snowfall is expected in northern mountainous regions. The cold will begin to subside from the second week of March, with warmer temperatures expected after Holi.
Farmers Advised Against Irrigation During Strong Winds
Agricultural scientists at Haryana Agricultural University have advised farmers not to irrigate their fields during the next 3-4 days, as strong winds could damage ripening crops. They've also recommended that farmers keep a close eye on wheat crops and consult with agricultural scientists at nearby agricultural science centers before taking any measures.
