In a significant political development, former Haryana Minister Nirmal Singh and his daughter Chitra Sarwara are set to rejoin the Congress party today in the presence of eminent leaders in New Delhi. The father-daughter duo departed from Ambala Cantt at 8 AM, heading to Delhi alongside their supporters. Their re-entry into Congress will be marked by their association with prominent figures, including Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, K.C. Venugopal, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda.

Nirmal Singh, who represented the Nagal constituency four times as a Congress MLA (1982, 1991, 1996, and 2005), later shifted to contest from the Ambala City seat due to delimitation. He also served as a minister in the Haryana government. However, in 2019, when denied a Congress ticket for the Haryana Legislative Assembly elections, both Nirmal Singh and his daughter contested as independent candidates after their unsuccessful attempts to secure Congress tickets for Ambala City and Ambala Cantt seats, respectively.

Despite facing defeat in the elections, the father received 54,000 votes in Ambala City, while the daughter secured 44,000 votes in Ambala Cantt. Subsequently, they joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in a political shift. However, the unexpected resignation from AAP on December 28, citing personal reasons, led them back to the Congress fold.

Nirmal Singh's political journey, including his association with former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his daughter's role as the State Vice President of the Haryana unit of the Aam Aadmi Party, underscores the dynamic nature of Haryana's political landscape. Their return to Congress is poised to make waves, with their past political experiences adding an interesting dimension to the state's political dynamics.
