An automated toll plaza is set to launch on the Urban Extension Road-2's Sonipat spur, this marks a significant development in Highway infrastructure. The system will automatically deduct toll charges through FASTags using advanced sensors and the vehincles do not need to stop or slow down. This automated toll plaza is going to be the first of its kind in Haryana.

The travel time will significantlty reduce between Sonipat and Bawana as the journey expected to take just 20 minutes for the 29-kilometer stretch. This route will cut down the travel time to IGI Airport to less than an hour and thus will improve connectivity between Punjab, Haryana, and outer Delhi reducing traffic pressure on NH-44.

Toll Structure and Implementation

NHAI has finalized the toll rates with cars being charged Rs. 65, while larger vehicles will pay according to their axle count, ranging from Rs. 105 for mini-buses to Rs. 430 for seven-plus axle vehicles. A temporary cash lane will be maintained initially to ensure smooth transition and user awareness.

Technical Infrastructure and Management

The toll plaza will be monitored from a control room staffed with engineers ready to address any technical issues immediately. The system's December 2025 launch will mark a significant step in modernizing Haryana's highway infrastructure, with complete automation being the end goal.
