The second deportation flight is set to land in Amritsar tonight with 119 Indians. The data of the deportees show a clear cut regional concentration as Punjab tops the table with 67 individuals, Haryana at second position with 33 deportees and Gujarat at third with 8 people. This pattern provides insights into the geography of irregular migration from India to the United States.
Immigration officials, police personnel, and Ministry of External Affairs representatives will be present at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport to process the returnees. A wider reception protocol has been established at the airport. To ensure smooth processing of the deportees , security arrangements have been enhanced.
While northern states dominate the numbers, the deportation affects individuals from across India. Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan each have two or three returnees, while Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir each have one person being deported.
Officials have confirmed that this flight is part of an ongoing process, with another deportation flight scheduled to arrive in Amritsar on February 16. This indicates a systematic approach by the US administration in addressing irregular immigration from India.
