The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections highlighted the significant impact of Haryana- origin politicians on Delhi's political ground. Total eight leaders originating from Haryana participated in the Delhi assembly elections, demonstrating the strong political connections between the two regions. These leaders brought their Haryana heritage to the forefrunt of Delhi's politics.
The Victorious Three
Among the winning candidates, BJP's Manjinder Singh Sirsa, originally from Sirsa, claimed victory in the Rajouri Garden constituency. Another BJP candidate, Pawan Sharma from Narwana, secured the Uttam Nagar seat. Meanwhile, AAP's Virender Singh Kadian, who hails from Dubaldhan village in Jhajjar, emerged victorious in the Delhi Cantonment constituency.
Defeated Candidates
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced the most shocking setback as he lost to BJP's Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma in the prestigious New Delhi constituency. Kejriwal belongs to Siwani in Bhiwani district. Other defeated candidates included AAP's Rakhi Birla from Jhajjar ,Mahender Goyal from Kaithal, and Deepak Singla with family ties to Uklana in Hisar district. Congress candidate Arjun Bhadana, son of former MP Avatar Singh Bhadana from Faridabad, also faced defeat.
The mixed results of Haryana-origin candidates reflect the complicated relationship between regional identity and electoral success in Delhi politics. While some leveraged their Haryana connections to build successful political careers in the capital, others faced challenges despite their regional background.
