The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a great comeback to power in Delhi, winning 48 out of 70 seats in the assembly elections. This marks the end of the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) decade-long rule in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the victory with BJP workers, criticizing the AAP's "short-cut politics" and expressing gratitude to the people of Delhi for their support.
The Congress party's hopes of a comeback were smashed as they failed to secure any seat. The AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal managed to win 22 seats. The BJP's victory is seen as a significant milestone, as the party had been out of power in Delhi for nearly three decades.
The BJP's campaign focused on key issues such as development, infrastructure, and governance, which resonated with voters. PM Modi's party had been out of power in Delhi since 1998, but their promises of monthly payments to poor women, subsidized cooking gas, and other benefits seemed to have won over the electorate.
The Bharatiya Janata Party's historic victory in Delhi after 27 years has triggered widespread celebrations across Haryana and Punjab, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi drawing parallels between Delhi's future and Haryana's successful governance transformation.
During his victory speech at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, PM Modi referenced Haryana's transformation, stating, "Previously in Haryana, one couldn't get a job without paying bribes and using influence and contacts. After BJP formed the government there, we established good governance. We will create a similar model of good governance in Delhi."
The victory sparked jubilant celebrations across Haryana and Punjab. In Rewari, BJP District President Vandana Popli distributed jalebis, while party workers in Hisar and Jalandhar celebrated with dance and fireworks. The celebrations reflected the regional significance of BJP's Delhi victory.
Haryana Leadership Reactions
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini shared a previous video on social media, stating his prediction about Kejriwal had come true. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar emphasized that Delhi residents had expressed their frustration with the previous 10 years of governance through their votes.
BJP 's Delhi campaign saw active participation from Haryana's leadership, with CM Saini personally addressing the Yamuna water controversy. The state's proximity to Delhi made it a crucial battleground, with several senior Haryana leaders actively campaigning in the capital and eventually their influence worked and BJP made a comeback in Delhi after the wait of 27 years.
