Know your Minister- Arti Singh Rao- From International Shooter to Haryana's Health Minister

In the corridors of Haryana politics, the name Rampura House has long commanded respect. Born in 1979 into this prestigious lineage, Arti Singh Rao carries forward the legacy of her grandfather, Maharaja Rao Birender Singh, former Chief Minister of Haryana, and her father, Rao Inderjit Singh, current Union Minister of Culture. However, what sets her apart is her determination to forge her own path before entering the political arena.

Shooting Journey

Before entering into Haryana political landcape, Rao distinguished herself as an International Skeet Shooter. Her sporting career, spanning from 1998 to 2012, showcased exceptional talent and dedication. The pinnacle came with her gold medal at the 2005 Asian Games, complemented by two silvers and a bronze in other years. Her participation in World Cup Finals and consistent high-ranking performances demonstrated the discipline and focus that would later characterize her political career.

Political Journey and Perseverance

Despite her strong political background, Arti's entry into Haryana politics is truly an evident story of consistency and perseverance. She got active into Haryana politics in the year 2009, intially supporting her father 's campaign in Congress and then in BJP. She has faced repeated disappointments in securing party tickets to contest election. Arti always stated that even though she has not been able to secure party ticket, she will keep on working for the people of her region. Her consistency helped her to understand grassroot politics and public service. After a decade long wait, Arti Rao finally made her debut in politics through securing BJP ticket in 2024 Haryana Assembly and eventually winning from Ateli constituency with a significant margin demonstrating thjat hard work and oerseverance will always give good results. Arti Rao is currently serving as Haryana's Health Minister in the Nayab Saini Government.

Transformative Leadership in Healthcare

Since assuming office as Haryana's Health Minister in 2024, Rao has initiated several groundbreaking programs:

• Spearheading the establishment of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Health Science University in Karnal
• Overseeing the development of six new nursing colleges with a budget of Rs 264 crore
• Implementing the TB-Mukt Haryana campaign 
• Developing standardized operating procedures across medical institutions
• Expanding super-specialty services in government medical colleges 
• Creating medical colleges in every district to improve healthcare accessibility
• Establishing critical care blocks in all government medical facilities
• Developing specialized trauma care delivery centers
• Strengthening the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme
• Building a robust healthcare workforce through strategic recruitment and training. 

Minister Rao's approach combines her sports background's discipline with her family's political acumen. She's actively working on standardizing operating procedures for patient care and addressing manpower shortages in medical institutions. Her leadership in the TB elimination campaign, offering Rs 1,000 monthly support to patients through the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, demonstrates her commitment to public health initiatives.
