CM Saini outlined a bold vision for water conservation while speaking at a high-level review meeting of the Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority in Chandigarh. The comprehensive management plan includes developing a roadmap for interlinking rivers across the state, cleaning and maintaining ponds for multiple uses, and implementing strict measures to prevent water pollution. He emphasized the need for panchayat cooperation in keeping village ponds free from household waste and contaminated water.

Groundwater Recharge Initiative

Addressing the critical issue of falling groundwater levels, the CM announced an ambitious first-phase target of groundwater recharge in 500 villages. Special attention will be given to constructing ponds in dark zones for monsoon water storage. The government is also exploring the possibility of utilizing the Hansi-Butana link canal for water storage.

Infrastructure and Implementation

The Amrit Sarita Yojana, part of the government's Sankalp Patra, will focus on strengthening canal and river embankments. The CM proposed using MGNREGA schemes for this work and announced the formation of a dedicated task force to prevent canal water theft. Additionally, plans include installing solar pumps to address waterlogging issues in districts like Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Mahendragarh, Sonepat, and Rohtak, while promoting fish farming in surrounding pond areas.

Looking Ahead

The initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's recently launched National River Link Project, aiming to prevent flood damage while improving groundwater levels. The CM emphasized the need for departmental coordination and maintaining clean ponds under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana, showcasing a holistic approach to water resource management.
