RTI Reveals Alarming Rate of False Cases Filed Against Men in Panipat

An RTI query exposes that 50% of cases filed by women in Panipat police stations were found to be false, prompting SP Lokendra Singh to order strict action against those misusing legal provisions for blackmail and extortion.

Social activist Savita Arya's RTI query has brought out disturbing statistics about the misuse of legal provisions in Panipat. The data reveals that nearly half of the cases filed by women at local police stations were discovered to be false allegations, leading to their subsequent cancellation by the police authorities.

Police Takes Strict Action

Panipat SP Lokendra Singh has taken serious note of these findings and issued strict directives to all police stations. The administration has emphasized that those filing false cases for blackmail or extortion purposes will face severe consequences, marking a significant shift in how such cases are handled.

Impact on Genuine Cases

The prevalence of false cases has raised concerns about their impact on genuine victims. Social activist Savita Arya highlighted that women who file false rape and POCSO Act cases should face strict punishment, similar to the penalties for actual perpetrators. She emphasized that false cases often result in genuine victims being denied timely justice.

Misuse Uncovered

The investigation revealed the existence of organized groups that systematically file false cases against men for financial gain. These groups typically follow a pattern of filing cases and then offering to withdraw them in exchange for monetary settlements. The mandatory requirement to register cases immediately upon receiving complaints from women, while intended as a protective measure, has unfortunately been exploited by some for extortion.
