Congress Party's 10-Year Organizational Crisis in Haryana Deepens

From Leadership Resignations to Internal Conflicts: How Haryana Congress Failed to Build a Strong Organizational Structure Since 2014, Raising Concerns About Its Political Future.

Haryana Congress has been operating without a proper organizational structure for the past decade. The crisis began with Ashok Tanwar's presidency in 2014, which was marked by conflicts with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda. After a physical altercation between supporters of both leaders in 2016, Tanwar eventually left the party in 2019, leaving the organization in disarray.

Revival Under Different Leaders: Failed Attempts

Following Tanwar's exit, Kumari Selja took charge but faced similar challenges. Most Congress MLAs, being Hooda loyalists, showed little cooperation. Unable to unite the party, Selja resigned in April 2022. The current president, Udai Bhan, who has served for nearly three years, recently blamed party in-charge Deepak Babaria for blocking organizational appointments despite multiple attempts to submit leadership lists.

Impact on Electoral Performance

Senior Congress MLA Ashok Arora has warned that the lack of organizational structure poses a serious threat to the party's future. The absence of a strong organization has already affected the party's performance in both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. The situation became more complex when Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former CM Bhajan Lal, left Congress after being denied the state president position.

Current Status and Future Prospects

Congress co-in-charge Jitendra Baghel has promised quick action on organizational appointments, starting with district in-charges. However, the party continues to struggle with factionalism and leadership issues, raising questions about its ability to rebuild its organizational structure effectively.
