The Punjab and Haryana High Court has overturned a special court decision that would have granted jailed Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim access to crucial case documents related to the sterilization of Followers. Ram Rahim is currently serving time in Sunaria Jail, Rohtak, and he faces renewed legal challenges as the case returns to the CBI special court.

The Case Background

The case unfolds as there have been allegations on Ram Rahim that the followers at Dera Sacha Sauda were subjected to medical procedures under the guise of receiving divine blessings. the High Court had assigned the investigations to the CBI following which CBI submitted its sealed status report.

CBI's Challenge

CBI contested the decision of special court's decision in 2019 to provide Ram Rahim with the case diary, witness statements and related documents for his defense preparation. The High Court has now ruled this order improper and unjustified, stating that police statements lack evidentiary value and sharing testimonies of 87 witnesses with Ram Rahim is not justified.

Future Proceedings

The High Court has instructed the CBI special court to review the matter, considering the appropriateness of sharing sensitive documents for defense. This development adds to Ram Rahim's legal troubles, as he currently serves sentences in three other cases.
