Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Sonia Aggarwal, vice chairperson of Haryana State women commission and her personal assistant/driver Kulbir on charges of bribery and corruption. ACB team has arrested the duo on Saturday for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a JBT (Junior Basic Training) teacher in Jind district. ACB team arrested Sonia Aggarwal ‘s personal assistant red-handed in extortion scheme.
The case involves Anil, a JBT teacher and his wife, a Haryana police officer. The couple was facing marital dispute. The complaint has been filed by the wife with the women commissions, both have been summoned for an enquiry hearing on December 12, where they appeared before Aggarwal. Aggarwal’s personal assistant approached Anil with a demand of ₹1,00,00 to settle down the case. Anil refused and quickly complained to ACB eventually led to the arrests of the culprits.
Following the day of intense interrogation the driver Kulbir was produced in the court and subsequently sent to judicial custody after ACB recovered a diary and a mobile phone during their investigation.
Kulbir's Background
The driver Kulbir has an interesting background. He is a YouTuber from Hisar district who had previously contested a Parliamentary election as an independent candidate. He seems to have found his way into the women commission through unconventional means. Sources suggest that he was associated with an NGO and connected with Aggarwal through social media platforms before being appointed as her driver.
Vipin Kadyan, DSP of Anti-Corruption Bureau (Sonipat) provided crucial information about the case. Vipin revealed that while Kulbir was working as a personal assistant and driver for Aggarwal, he had not received any official appointment or letter. As of now the unusual arrangement has raised questions about the nature of their professional relationship and the potential motivation behind the appointment of Kulbir.
The investigation is still going on and authorities are particularly focusing on Kulbir ‘s role as a middleman and the extent of Aggarwal ‘s involvement in the corruption scandal. The recovery of the mobile phone and the diary is expected to provide more evidence to support the ACB’s allegations.
This bribery case highlights the need for transparency and accountability in public offices and institution, especially those designated with the role to protect and support the vulnerable sections of the society.
