In recent years, Haryana has emerged as a key player in India’s rapidly evolving tourism sector, and much of this progress can be attributed to the strategic initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism. With a combination of cultural richness, historical significance, and modern infrastructure, Haryana is steadily making its mark on the global tourism map.

The Ministry of Tourism is committed to promoting India as a premier global tourist destination, and Haryana is no exception. By leveraging promotional events, cultural festivals, exhibitions, and robust digital campaigns, the Ministry ensures that Haryana’s diverse and vibrant tourism offerings receive the attention they deserve.

Ministry of Tourism's Role in Promoting Haryana

The Ministry’s efforts are driven by various financial support schemes aimed at the development of tourism infrastructure across states and Union Territories, including Haryana. Some of the key schemes that benefit the state are:

  • Domestic Promotion & Publicity including Hospitality (DPPH): Aimed at promoting domestic tourism and providing the necessary hospitality infrastructure.
  • Swadesh Darshan: A scheme for the integrated development of theme-based circuits.
  • National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD): Focuses on the development of pilgrimage and spiritual tourism.
  • Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development Schemes: Ensures investment in improving tourist infrastructure to enhance visitor experiences.

These initiatives reflect the Ministry’s holistic approach to fostering tourism, with Haryana receiving significant support for its development as a premier destination.

Key Tourism Infrastructure Developments in Haryana

Under these schemes, Haryana has seen the development of several tourism infrastructure projects that have made it a must-visit destination for tourists from across the globe:

  1. Krishna Circuit in Kurukshetra: As one of the most revered spiritual destinations in India, Kurukshetra has received substantial investment to promote its historical and religious significance. The development of important sites such as Brahma Sarovar, Jyotisar, Narkatari, and Sanhit Sarovar has made Kurukshetra a significant stop on the Krishna Circuit, which focuses on places linked to the Mahabharata. These initiatives not only enhance the spiritual tourism offering but also preserve the rich cultural legacy of the region.
  2. Sound and Light Show at Yadavindra Gardens, Pinjore: The Yadavindra Gardens in Pinjore, one of Haryana’s architectural gems, has been enhanced with a spectacular Sound and Light Show, which brings the history and grandeur of the gardens to life. This show is a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists.
  3. Multimedia/Laser Show at Tilyar Lake: Another exciting development is the Multimedia and Laser Show at Tilyar Lake. This immersive experience at one of Haryana’s most scenic lakes further enriches the state's tourism offering, adding a modern touch to its traditional appeal.

Major Projects Sanctioned for Tourism Development

In addition to these infrastructure projects, Haryana has also been the beneficiary of several sanctioned projects under various schemes. These initiatives are designed to promote the state’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant tourism landscape:

  1. Development of Mata Mansa Devi Temple & Nada Saheb Gurudwara (2019-20): A sum of ₹48.53 crore was sanctioned, with ₹34.68 crore already released for the development of these important religious sites, enhancing their accessibility and visitor experience.
  2. Surajkund International Crafts Mela (2019-23): The iconic Surajkund International Crafts Mela, which draws thousands of tourists every year, has received ₹90 crore in funding over the past few years. This mela showcases Haryana's rich handicraft traditions and provides a platform for artisans from across India and abroad.
  3. Mango Mela & Heritage Festival (2019-20): The Mango Mela and Heritage Festival are part of Haryana's cultural celebrations that attract visitors from around the world. With a total of ₹50 crore released for these projects, the festivals are set to continue flourishing as major cultural highlights of the region.

Swadesh Darshan 2.0: A Game-Changer for Haryana

The Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme marks a significant evolution in the Ministry's efforts to promote tourism in India. This revamped initiative aims to create a more sustainable and responsible tourism framework in partnership with local governments and stakeholders.

In this context, Panchkula (Morni) in Haryana has been selected for development under the new scheme. The focus is on creating a more integrated tourism ecosystem that aligns with sustainability goals, ensuring that tourism development in Haryana is not only enriching but also environmentally responsible.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for Haryana’s Tourism

The ongoing support and initiatives by the Ministry of Tourism are paving the way for Haryana to become one of the top travel destinations in India. The state’s vibrant cultural heritage, coupled with modern infrastructure and sustainable tourism practices, offers immense potential for growth. With continued investments in tourism infrastructure, festivals, and eco-friendly practices, Haryana is poised to become a shining example of how regional tourism can flourish under the right leadership and strategic investment.

As Haryana’s tourism industry continues to evolve, it is clear that the state is well on its way to becoming a global tourism hub, attracting visitors from around the world while preserving and showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
