Haryana Farmer Leaders Divided Over Delhi March, Refuse to Participate

Senior farmer leaders from Haryana express reluctance to join the December 6 Delhi march, citing lack of consultation and coordination, while some groups continue to mobilize support for the protest against government policies.

The upcoming farmers' protest march to Delhi on December 6 is facing internal divisions, with several prominent Haryana farmer leaders deciding to stay away from the demonstration.

Lack of Coordination Sparks Controversy

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have called for the march, but Haryana's farmer leaders are expressing significant reservations about the mobilization.

Bhartiya Kisan Union state president Rattan Mann highlighted the importance of coordination, stating, "Coordination between unions and farmer leaders is crucial for such large-scale agitations. We have not been approached, and no decisions have been made regarding our participation."

Key Leaders Speak Out

Gurnam Singh Charuni, BKU (Charuni) Chief, was particularly vocal about the exclusion. "Since we were not approached and consulted, we have no plans to participate in any march," he said. Charuni emphasized that while the farmers' demands are genuine, the lack of communication has led to their decision to stay away.

Suresh Koth, Bhartiya Kisan Mazdoor Union president, echoed similar sentiments, stating that his union has no plans to participate in the December 6 march.

Some Groups Remain Committed

Not all Haryana farmer unions are maintaining this stance. BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) continues to actively protest and is encouraging participation. Tejveer Singh, the union's spokesman, called for unity among farmers, saying, "We are requesting all unions and farm activists from Haryana to rise above group differences and get united to fulfill our demands."

Ongoing Support and Mobilization

Despite the leadership's divisions, some positive signs of support emerge. Several farmer unions from Haryana continue to participate in the agitation, and local Khap panchayats have extended their support to the march.

The farmers camping at the Shambhu border remain determined to proceed with their Delhi march, highlighting the persistent challenges in agricultural policy and farmer representation.
