Haryana's Drug Crackdown: 3,005 Cases and 4,523 Arrests in 2024

State Intensifies Legal Battle with Record Numbers, Seizing Drugs Worth Crores and Targeting Trafficking Networks.

Haryana has launched an unprecedented war against drug trafficking and substance abuse, with state authorities revealing comprehensive details of their rigorous anti-narcotics campaign that has yielded significant results in 2024.

Statistics of Anti-Drug Campaign 

The state's law enforcement agencies have registered 3,005 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between January and November, resulting in 4,523 arrests. Of these, 819 individuals were specifically accused of handling commercial quantities of drugs, demonstrating the targeted nature of the crackdown. 

Seizures and Legal Action 

The intensified drive has produced remarkable outcomes: 

  • 27 kg of heroin seized
  • 265 kg of charas confiscated
  • 8,520 kg of ganja confiscated
  • Over 10 lakh pharmaceutical drugs captured 
  • 428 individuals convicted
  • Properties worth Rs 52.72 crore seized

Comprehensive Strategy for Drug Elimination 

Chief Secretary Vivek Joshi emphasized a multi-pronged approach combining enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation. He called for a fortnight-long campaign aligned with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's vision of a "Nasha-Mukt Haryana" (Drug-Free Haryana). 

Targeted Awareness and Rehabilitation

The state plans to launch extensive awareness programs targeting:

  • School and college students
  • Out-of-school youth
  • Community engagement initiatives 

Joshi instructed local Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to conduct regular inspections of drug de-addiction centers and submit detailed compliance reports within 10 days.  Director General of Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau, OP Singh, highlighted these efforts as an important step towards dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring legal accountability.
