In a significant leap toward green transportation, Haryana is preparing to welcome India's first hydrogen-powered train in early 2025. The groundbreaking project, centered in Jind, will place India among the world's elite group of nations operating hydrogen trains, joining just four other countries in this technological advancement.
The massive hydrogen plant, spread across 2,000 meters at Jind Junction, is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 118 crore. With construction already 80% complete and a December deadline approaching, the project is on track for its historic launch.
The new train will showcase impressive capabilities, running 180 kilometers on just 360 kilograms of hydrogen fuel. Compared to traditional electric trains, this hydrogen-powered marvel can cover ten times more distance on a single fuel load.
Passengers can expect a premium travel experience similar to the Vande Bharat Express, but with additional environmental benefits. The train will feature:
- Zero smoke emissions, releasing only steam and water
- Dual power plants for efficient operation
- Noise-free travel for passenger comfort
- Low maintenance and fuel cell costs
This initiative marks a significant milestone in India's commitment to sustainable transportation, with Haryana leading the way in green railway technology.
