The Haryana Story brings you an exclusive report on the mounting challenges faced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Haryana as they campaign for the upcoming state assembly elections. Despite governing the state for the past ten years, BJP candidates are encountering strong opposition and difficult questions from villagers across various constituencies.

Widespread Protests Against BJP Leaders

In recent days, several high-profile BJP leaders have faced protests during their campaign events. In Adampur, Kuldeep Bishnoi and his son Bhavya Bishnoi were confronted by angry villagers in Kutiyawali village. When Kuldeep Bishnoi claimed that development works worth 71 lakh rupees had been carried out in the village, residents demanded details and questioned the veracity of his statement. The situation escalated, leading to a heated argument and the Bishnois having to leave the village hurriedly.

Former state Home Minister Anil Vij faced similar opposition in Ambala Cantt constituency. At his campaign events in Jalbera and Shahpur villages, farmers affiliated with unions arrived waving flags and raising slogans against him. The atmosphere became tense as Vij's supporters began counter-sloganeering, forcing him to cut short his program and leave.

Tough Questions on Development and Farmer Issues

In Fardiabad's Badkhal constituency, BJP candidate Dhanesh Adlakha was challenged by villagers to walk on a muddy, dilapidated road to experience the lack of development firsthand. Residents complained about long-standing sewage and drainage issues that remain unresolved despite repeated complaints.

In Hansi, BJP candidate Vinod Bhayana faced tough questions from farmers about the government's actions during the farmer protests. They accused the government of being anti-farmer, citing the shooting of a protester named Shubhkaran and the imposition of 28% GST on agricultural equipment.

Election Commission Steps Up Security

In response to these incidents, the Election Commission has become alert to the possibility of violence during campaigns. The Commission is preparing to increase security for candidates of all national parties, including the BJP. Reports have been sought from Superintendents of Police (SPs) in all districts regarding the current security arrangements for candidates and additional requirements.

Sources within the Commission suggest that there are concerns about potential attacks on candidates and leaders under the guise of protests. The security measures may be extended to regional party candidates and independents if they file complaints.

Challenges for BJP's Campaign Strategy

These incidents highlight the challenges faced by the BJP in Haryana. Despite a decade in power, the party is struggling to convince voters about its development agenda. The opposition from farmers, in particular, indicates lingering resentment over the handling of the farmer protests and agricultural policies.

BJP leaders are now having to adapt their campaign strategies. Some, like Anoop Dhanak in Uklana, have expressed emotional distress over the protests, claiming they are being targeted due to their caste background. Others, like the candidate in Hansi, have resorted to asking voters not to engage in debates if they don't intend to vote for the BJP.

As the election approaches, it remains to be seen how the BJP will address these challenges and whether they will impact the party's performance at the polls. The Haryana Story will continue to bring you updates on this developing situation in the state's political landscape.
