The Haryana Story website brings you the latest update on the upcoming Haryana elections. The Congress party has made a big decision that's shaking up the political scene in the state.

In a recent meeting in Delhi, the Congress party's screening committee decided that their current Members of Parliament (MPs) won't be allowed to run in the upcoming Haryana state assembly elections. This decision has hit Kumari Selja, a well-known Congress leader and MP from Sirsa, particularly hard.

Deepak Babaria, who's in charge of the Congress party in Haryana, confirmed this news. He said that no sitting MP or Rajya Sabha member will get a chance to contest in these elections. Instead, these leaders will focus on helping with the election campaign.

This decision seems to have cleared the way for Bhupinder Hooda, a former Chief Minister of Haryana. Just a few days ago, Kumari Selja had expressed her desire to become the Chief Minister, especially pushing for a Dalit (a historically disadvantaged group) to get the top job. But now, with this new rule, her path to becoming a candidate for Chief Minister has been blocked.

The timing of this decision is crucial. Haryana is getting ready for its state assembly elections, and the Congress party has just started discussing who should get tickets to run. The meeting where this decision was made was led by Ajay Maken, the chairman of the screening committee.

This move has stirred up quite a bit of drama within the Congress party. For a while now, there's been a tug-of-war between different groups, especially between supporters of Bhupinder Hooda and Kumari Selja, about who should be the face of the party for the Chief Minister's position.

The Congress party hasn't been in power in Haryana for the last ten years. In the 2014 elections, they only won 15 seats, and in 2019, they managed to get 31 seats. The party is hoping that by sorting out these internal issues, they might have a better chance in the upcoming elections.

It's worth noting that the final decision on candidates still rests with the party's top leadership. However, this new rule about MPs not contesting state elections is expected to be followed strictly.

As the election season heats up, The Haryana Story will keep you updated on all the latest developments in this political chess game. Stay tuned for more news and analysis on the Haryana elections 2024.
