Addressing public meetings in Haryana's Kalanwali assembly constituency, Kumari Selja, the Congress (India Alliance) candidate from Sirsa Lok Sabha seat, delivered a scathing critique of the BJP government's policies. In her words, "A lot has changed in politics over the last ten years, and today the fight to save the Constitution and democracy is ongoing in the country."
Selja promised to uplift the poor if elected, stating, "If the Congress government is formed, poor families will be given 10 kilograms of ration per month." She accused the Modi government of "misleading the public by raising absurd issues and avoiding speaking on unemployment, corruption, inflation, and farmers' issues because it has nothing to say."
Highlighting the BJP's disregard for democratic values, Selja said, "In a democracy, respect and honour are important, but respecting people is not in BJP's DNA. This government is oppressing the people, and the time has come to get rid of this tyrannical government."
Selja painted a grim picture of the current political landscape, stating, "Today, there is politics of oppression, and people are being suppressed and scared by the misuse of GST, ED, and CBI. The country is being mentally divided." She accused the BJP of creating "an atmosphere of division in the country and society," asserting that "democracy has ceased to exist, and the government has become tyrannical."
Turning her attention to the plight of farmers, Selja criticized the government's neglect, saying, "Farmers are not even given compensation for their damaged crops, while the debts of the wealthy running into millions are waived." She vowed to implement the MSP law and waive all encroachments of farmers if elected.
Selja also promised to restore the rights of sarpanches and local body presidents, which she claims were "taken away" by the government that claims "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas." Additionally, she pledged to prioritize youth empowerment, providing employment opportunities and tackling drug addiction through the establishment of de-addiction centers.
Addressing women's issues, Selja stated, "BJP has been insulting women, sisters, and daughters under various pretexts, but Congress will fully respect women." She emphasized the need for a "strict policy" to tackle drug addiction and bring youth into the mainstream.
Throughout her rallies, Selja received a warm welcome from the local community, with elders blessing her for victory and supporters showering her with flowers. Addressing the public in the village of Khairekan, she declared, "We need to think about the future, keeping the interests of farmers, youth, women, and employees in mind. Today, it is essential to save and strengthen democracy."
Selja urged people to unite and "fight and oust the BJP government," emphasizing that "it is not Selja but the people of this area who are fighting the election."
