Deepender Singh Hooda, Member of Parliament from Rohtak, Haryana, has brought to light a significant issue in the Lok Sabha regarding the unfair distribution of sports funding in India. His revelations highlight a stark contrast between Haryana's contribution to India's sports achievements and the financial support it receives.

Hooda presented compelling statistics, showing that Haryana's athletes consistently bring home 40-50% of India's medals in major international events like the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. In the 21st century alone, Haryana's sportspersons have won 12 out of 20 individual medals for India at the Olympics, demonstrating the state's crucial role in India's sporting success.

Despite this impressive track record, Hooda disclosed that Haryana has been allocated only 3% (65 crore rupees) of the total 2,200 crore rupees Khelo India budget. This allocation appears disproportionately low when compared to states like Gujarat, which received over 500 crore rupees (20% of the budget), and Uttar Pradesh, which also got a 20% share.

The MP expressed his disappointment, stating that this allocation doesn't reflect Haryana's significant contribution to Indian sports. He emphasized that when Haryana's athletes win medals, they raise the Indian flag high, benefiting the entire nation. Therefore, he argues, the state deserves a fairer share of the sports budget.

Hooda clarified that he holds no grudge against other states receiving funds. However, he questioned the apparent neglect of Haryana, especially considering that the BJP currently governs Haryana, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh alike. This revelation has sparked a debate about the criteria used for allocating sports funds across Indian states. It raises questions about whether the current system adequately supports and encourages states that consistently produce top athletes.

Hooda's appeal in the Lok Sabha calls for a more equitable distribution of sports funding, one that recognizes and rewards states based on their contribution to India's sporting success. This issue highlights the need for a transparent and fair system in allocating resources for sports development across the country.

As India continues to strive for excellence in international sports, addressing such disparities in funding could be crucial for nurturing talent and maintaining the country's competitive edge on the global stage. Synopsis:
